Patrick Chrisp

I’m a class of 2014 OPRF Graduate. I am Chicago made and simply put, I am an artist. A recording artist, audio engineer, song writer, poet, graphic designer, clothing designer and every thing that comes with. When I’m not doing those things I’m just your everyday OPRF faculty member helping create equitable solutions to the problems students at OPRF face everyday. So I guess, it’s no simple answer at all.

The impact of poetry and the spoken word club

Spoken word club was my home away from home. It was the place where I learned most of the skills that have made me the man I am today. I learned how to be intrinsic. I learned how to lead as well as follow. I learned how to talk in front of hundreds like it was 5 people and how treat 5 people like they were thousands. I learned what it means to be humble. I learned when it’s okay to be the most confident. All in all, spoken word and poetry as whole, taught me how to be me in every form of what that means.

Top favorite poets or lyricists

Common and Andre 3000 are my favorite lyricists and right behind them is Lupe Fiasco. The way Common seems like he’s just having a conversation with the listener is why I love his work. Andre 3000 and Lupe just craft verses that are so beautifully structured you can’t deny their genius.
