Claire von Ebers

I graduated from OPRF in 2020 and throughout my time there I participated in 8 showcases in Spoken Word! I fell in love with poetry in the club and made some incredible friends. I also won first place of the 2019 Walgreens Expressions Challenge for Creative Writing. Now, I am currently a sophomore at University of Illinois in Urbana Champaign and I am majoring in Anthropology with a concentration in Bioanthropology.

The impact of poetry and the spoken word club

During high school, I experienced a lot of difficulties in my personal life and I learned that writing is the best way to deal with hard times. I fell in love with Spoken Word and everyone involved in the club. I am able to cope with things in a healthy way and that is all thanks to Mr. Kahn, Mr. Levin and Mr. Robinson. On top of that, I was also able to connect with my peers while writing and preforming.
