Camila Gamboa
Hello everyone, I’m Cami! I graduated last May & I’m currently attending UIC in the city. Just like any new experience, it has taken me a bit to adjust to this new environment of being a college student. It can be intimidating, but if spoken word taught me anything it’s to just go for it! Be fearless and reach out of your own comfort zone. This is the first time since the pandemic started that I’ve returned to having classes in person. Although it feels somewhat surreal, I’m looking forward to meeting new people! Apart from school, I consider myself as a very outgoing person. I love spending time with friends & going through with last minute plans. I seem to enjoy myself most when there isn’t any expectations. I love watching sunsets and enjoying little moments of each day!
The impact of poetry and the spoken word club
Poetry has been a sense of comfort throughput all of high school. The friendships I created through the club were all incredibly special to me. Everyone is supportive and genuinely wishing the best for you. Spoken word was something I always looked forward to. Being a part of something so special is blissfully heartwarming. Every showcase felt like the first one. Every performance is special especially with everyone on stage that was there from the beginning.
Top favorite poets or lyricists
Julie Sosa, Leah Kindler, and Alice Atkins
Each of these poets always stung the liveliness harmony of my ears. Their pieces all individually had such different tones/personalities that constantly captivated my undivided attention. I can watch them perform all day, and I will be at ease for every second. They inspire me.
